Become your own expert


A friend recently told me that if he could pick one super power, it would be to have ALL knowledge. This got me thinking about how in our industry there is always something new to learn. Whether it’s because Google just changed their algorithms or Facebook just launched a new feature, acquiring knowledge in the online marketing world is a necessary skill for survival – but luckily it’s also easy to obtain.

All you need is a computer and internet, the rest is up to you. And although it’s good to have a good general understanding of online marketing, in order to really make yourself valuable you need to become an expert. Online is a vast, intertwined landscape where every area requires a specific skillset. So start by picking an area that interests you, or one where you can add the most value for your clients. It could be PPC, Mobile, Email or Affiliate Marketing, Copywriting , Blogging, SEO, Web design or Sales. Pick your topic and then study it, live it, breath it and most importantly do it.

You’ll make mistakes along the way, we all do, but it’s the only way to learn those valuable lessons and have those important conversations. It’s all part of the road to acquiring a new skill and knowing your area inside-out. Below are a few free, self-learning resources to help get you started, but there are plenty more out there, just spend a bit of time on research. It will be well worth your time:
